Montgomery County residents will soon have more options for purchasing spirits following a decision by the county’s Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS). The agency has approved the sale of liquor-based products at private retailers that currently sell beer and wine, significantly expanding availability.

Previously, only 27 retailers in the county offered beer, wine, and spirits, but the change will add approximately 400 more locations, according to Andy Deloney of the Distilled Spirits Council. This move is expected to enhance consumer convenience, support local businesses, and increase county tax revenue.

ABS defines spirits as liquor-based products mixed with nonalcoholic liquids containing no more than 8% alcohol per serving. The exact implementation date for this change has not been announced.
